The National Metrology Station for Water Transport Engineering Testing Equipment is a legally authorized national metrological technical institution. It holds authorizations from the National Market Supervision and Administration Bureau as a statutory metrological institution, laboratory calibration accreditation from the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS), and qualifications as a CMA inspection and testing institution. Its operations are jointly guided by the National Market Supervision and Administration Bureau and the Ministry of Transport, and it is located at the Tianjin Research Institute of Water Transport Engineering, Ministry of Transport.
The National Water Transport Monitoring Equipment Industry Metrology and Testing Center is the first national-level metrology and testing center in the transportation system and Tianjin, addressing the challenges of "unmeasurability, incomplete measurement, and inaccurate measurement" in the industry. It provides forward-looking metrology and testing technology services with "full traceability chain, full life cycle, and full industry chain" for the water transport monitoring equipment industry.
Equipped with a multi-functional six-sided anechoic pool, a water depth and flow velocity verification tank, a tidal wave water tower, a port and waterway metrology training base, and over 350 sets of various precision equipment, we have undertaken more than 50 projects in the past five years, including national key research and development plans, national calibration specifications, industry standards, and departmental verification procedure revisions.
Six-sided Anechoic Tank
The six-sided anechoic tank is primarily used for research in hydroacoustic metrology and for calibrating key technical parameters of sonar transducers. By utilizing sound-absorbing materials on all boundaries to absorb acoustic energy, it simulates the acoustic conditions of an infinite water environment, thereby providing an equivalent underwater free-field setting.
· Tank dimensions: 30 m (L) × 12 m (W) × 8 m (D)
· Sound absorption coefficient: ≥0.99 at frequencies above 3 kHz
· Angular accuracy: 0.1°
· Operating frequency: ≥3 kHz
· Positioning accuracy: 1 mm
· Immersion depth: 0–4 m
Water Depth And Flow Velocity Verification Flume
The water depth and flow velocity verification flume is used to calibrate instruments such as single-beam echo sounders, current meters, and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). It employs an underwater horizontal ranging method to replace vertical depth measurement, enabling the calibration of depth accuracy and blind zone indicators for echo sounders. By using a moving carriage to drive current meters at variable speeds in a straight, still open channel, it facilitates the calibration of flow velocity and direction indicators. It also supports the calibration of thrust and hovering accuracy for ROVs.
· Dimensions: 103 m (L) × 3 m (W) × 3 m (D)
· Depth measurement range: 100 m
· Velocity range: 0.1–5.0 m/s
· Initial acceleration: 1 m/s²
Tidal Wave Verification Water Tower
The tidal wave verification water tower is a metrology device used to calibrate tide gauges and wave sensors. It can automatically set water level changes, track water level variations via video, and read corresponding values from a standard steel tape to calibrate water level measurement instruments. The device can also generate periodic sinusoidal motions internally to simulate wave height and wave period characteristics, enabling the calibration of wave measurement instruments.
· Dimensions: 12 m (H) × 2 m (diameter)
· Operating height: 10 m
· Simulated wave height range: 1–10 m
· Simulated wave period range: 2–40 s
